A night to remember in Liege for Belgium national team and Axel Witsel, as Tianjin Quanjian midfielder returned to his roots, Sclessin, scored a fantastic bicycle kick to mark his 9th International goal only to get send off just before half time against Gibraltar.
Dries Mertens was the one to start the goal feast at Stade Maurice Dufrasne after 15 minutes with Meunier and Lukaku adding their name on the score sheet (18′, 21′). Axel Witsel showed his class after half an hour scoring a brilliant bicycle kick in Gibraltar’s box for the 4-0 while Lukaku was doubling his personal goals ten minutes later.
Axel received his marching orders at the 40th minute after a mistimed tackle, leaving Belgium down to ten men. Martinez was happy to see his team not being affected, ending the half time with Eden Hazard’s first of the night on his return after his serious injury in May.
Gibraltar could not stop Belgium’s attacking power and all they could do is watch Thomas Meunier getting his first hat-trick with Belgium after scoring another two in 6 minutes (61′, 67′). Barnett followed Witsel leaving his side with ten men as well after bringing De Bruyne down in the box, Romelu successfully converting it for his own hat trick and a final 9-0 in Liege.
