Fifth day for the Russian Premier League found Zenit welcoming Amkar Perm in a crowded Petrovsky stadium after serving the two first home games without their fans.
Zenit managed to score early for another game this season when Shatov pierced Amkar’s defense after Hulk’s lob-assist and Witsel almost doubled the goals five minutes later but defender cleared the ball into a corner.
Hulk needed only 21 minutes to score and after playing the one-two with Danny, he nailed a brick shot on the left upper corner of Gerus’s post. Witsel had the last chance of the first half barely missing the header from Hulk’s cross and teams went on half time with Zenit leading 2-0.
Few chances where produced in the next 45′ minutes especially with Hulk’s substitution (Fayzoulin in). Amkar reached Lodygin’s posts with a few good shots, Rondon and Arshavin (Danny out) where looking for Zenit’s third goal unsuccessfully and Witsel’s goal at the 81′ minute was cancelled by the assistant referee as an offside.
Zenit are currently first in the RPL table and face Lokomotiv of Moscow away next on August 31st.
